available for civil engineers who, at the moment, are in short supply.
With the government focussing on housing, schools and hospital development there
is plenty of work around. Civil engineering consultants are also heavily
involved in international projects.
The Engineering Employers
Federation (EEF) boasts over 6000 members showing that this sector is a large
and powerful one. Although there are significantly more men than women in this
sector, the number of women has been rising dramatically, now standing at 14%.
Newly graduated trainee
engineers can expect a starting salary in the region of �18,000 - �22,000.
Regional variations apply and typically salaries are higher in the South East
and London area.
