other consumer equipment such as DVD payers and music systems. There is more
demand in the electrical, software and mechanical engineering roles
although a lot of work in this sub-sector of engineering is done abroad.

Federation (EEF) boasts over 6000 members showing that this sector is a large
and powerful one. Although there are significantly more men than women in this
sector, the number of women has been rising dramatically, now standing at 14%.
Newly graduated trainee
engineers can expect a starting salary in the region of �18,000 - �22,000.
Regional variations apply and typically salaries are higher in the South East
and London area.
